A large gravel pit in East Windsor would be repurposed to be the anchor of a large solar farm. This project, covering 485 acres, would generate 120 megawatts, which is enough to power 12,000 homes in Southern New England. The location of the gravel pit and adjacent farmland was chosen by the CT Siting Council, with the Council managing the project and all approvals.
The project was approved by the Siting Council; construction would begin in mid-2021 with operations starting in 2023. DESRI would become the largest taxpayer in East Windsor.
